What are the benefits of reflexology and how does it help?

Doctors agree that over 75% of our health problems can be linked to nervous stress and tension. Reflexology improves nerve and blood supply, helping our bodies to naturally ’balance’.

There are thousands of nerve endings in the sole of the foot - one of the highest concentrations anywhere in the body. Reflexology works by using these nerve endings - to realign and address any imbalances or blockages - in the systems of the body.

Through applied pressure and manipulation, a reflexologist using their thumbs and fingers, can restore the flow of energy and help the nervous system to achieve normal function. Tension is eased, the immune system is stimulated, and circulation and elimination are improved.

Quite simply, reflexology encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.

Conditions that can be helped with reflexology include, but are not limited to:

Anaemia, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, bedwetting, bladder problems, breast (lumps), bronchitis, bursitis, cancer, cholesterol, chronic fatigue syndrome, constipation, cramps (menstrual), Crohn’s Disease, cystitis, deafness, depression, diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), diverticulitis, eczema, oedema, epilepsy, fainting, fatigue (general) and low energy, fever, fluid retention, fracture, gallstones, gout, headache and migraine, heartburn, heart conditions, haemorrhoids, hernia (inguinal), hiatus hernia, IBS, blood pressure (hypertension and hypotension), hip pain, hyperactivity, hysterectomy, improving self-confidence, impotence, incontinence, indigestion, infections, infertility, influenza, insomnia, kidney stones, knee problems, leukaemia, liver conditions, menopause and hot flushes, mononucleosis, morning sickness, multiple sclerosis, nausea, neck tension, nervousness and tension, paralysis, Parkinson’s Disease, plantar fasciitis, pneumonia, pregnancy, PMS, prostrate issues, psoriasis, restless leg syndrome, ruptured disc, sciatica, scoliosis, shingles, shoulder pain, sinusitis and mucus, loss of sense of smell and taste, sore throat, sprain or strain, spur on heel, stroke, swelling, tachycardia, teeth and gum issues, thyroid problems (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism), tinnitus, tonsillitis, toothache, tremors, tumours, ulcers, varicose veins, vertigo, whiplash.

Please do not think that you have to have anything physically wrong with you to be able to enjoy the benefits of reflexology. I have many patients who see me every week, and who have done so for a number of years. Quite simply, they feel that they are better able to cope with life and its vicissitudes!
